Can hypnosis change your life? It transformed mine.
It’s been awhile since I’ve posted here – and for good reason. I have been super busy training as a hypnotist! After over 150 hours of education with three different schools of hypnosis (over-achiever, I know), I am thrilled to announce that I am now a Certified Hypnotist. Hypnotherapy has been around since at least the 1800s, and yet there are still so many misconceptions around it. Let me take a moment to put some of those myths to rest and tell you exactly what hypnosis is and how it can help you make the changes you want, easily, quickly and long-lasting.
What Hypnosis Is NOT
- Isn’t sleep
- Isn’t a magic trick or witchcraft
- Isn’t loss of control…
– You will never get stuck in trance and no one can invade your mind space and tell you what to do.
-You are fully in control of your thoughts and actions and can emerge from trance any time you want.
-You will only accept suggestions and integrate changes that are right for you. It will never cause you to do anything against your will or morals.
-You will be able to hear every word while in a hypnotic state.
- Isn’t Hollywood…
-Don’t worry about what you’ve seen in movies or on stage – you are safe. I won’t make you cluck like a chicken. (Although I may make you bark like a dog…just kidding…hypnotist humor).
What Hypnosis IS
- Hypnosis is an effective method of achieving lasting change quickly and easily through accessing the subconscious mind’s wisdom.
- It’s simply a relaxed brain wave state where you are highly responsive to positive suggestions which can help you achieve your goals, change habits, reduce stress or anxiety and overcome fears.
- You will feel deeply relaxed, awake, alert and in control. You may notice a heightened focus and concentration.
- We have all been in hypnotic states; in fact, we naturally drift in and out of hypnotic states all day long – while driving, watching TV , scrolling on social media, texting, etc.
Does Hypnosis Work?
Yes, if you are 100% committed to making it work. That’s because all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. I’m just the facilitator. In a comparison study*, 6 sessions of hypnotherapy were much more effective than over 600 sessions of psychoanalysis.
Therapeutic Hypnosis
Hypnotherapy allows you to get to the root of what’s blocking your success – and to identify and release these blocks. It’s like a mindset reset. It’s a fast track to eliminating blocks you may have inherited as a young child; something you absorbed at 5 years old could be controlling your life today, without you even being aware of it.
Science behind the ‘woo’
There are two parts of the brain, feeling (subconscious) and thinking (conscious). The feeling part always overrides the thinking part. Learning, behaviour and change will occur in the subconscious first; the subconscious is faster, smarter, does things better, and runs most of the processes in our bodies on autopilot. Not until the conscious mind has stopped trying to do it, will the subconscious pick it up. Neuroscience backs this up, calling it the flow state. Hypnosis is talking to the part of you that’s in charge of you, the subconscious.
Doing it consciously is doing it the hard way.
Motivation and willpower will only take you so far.
